Dental Plaque Removal Effect by the Number of Toothbrushing Stroke

Abstract

|
The objective of this study was to compare the dental plaque removal effects with changes in the number of toothbrushing stroke. The subjects were 36 third grade dental hygiene students at the university in Gangwondo. They had received the same toothbrush and toothpaste, were involved in the experiment during 5 weeks, toothbrushing stroke were changed 4, 7, 10, and 13 times per a week. The plaque index was measured once a week. The changes of the plaque index were analysed by SPSS 18.0 program. The results of the plaque index showed statistically significantly(p<0.05);1.79(4 strokes), 1.17(10 strokes), 1.01(10 strokes), and 0.80(13 strokes). In anterior teeth, plaque index was changed from 1.30(4 strokes) to 0.52(13 strokes), Plaque index in posterior teeth was changed from 2.04(4 strokes) to 0.94(13 strokes). In conclusion, the effect of dental plaque removal in thirteen toothbrush strokes were more effective than others. In the future, more research remains to be done on the effect in brushing strokes and toothbrushing methods.
